Sunday Dharma Function – Cultivating One’s Mind is the Fundamental Way
On the morning of Sunday 9th June, 80 devotees respectfully chanted the “Amitabha Sutra” under the guidance of the Venerables, and then read Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s “Prayers and Wishes to Amitabha Buddha”
Afterwards Venerable Juehao gave a Dharma talk on the subject of Yogacara (Mind Only School of Buddhism) by using comics depicting “Different chairs, cups, and cars throughout our life”. Through the doctrines of Mind Only School, the Venerable explained our first 5 consciousnesses, which are eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and body consciousnesses. Then the Venerable further explained the 6th consciousness which analysis’s, creates illusory thoughts, conceptualises and activate other mental activities. This then led to the explanation of 7th Manas consciousness, which is the fundamental cause of attachment to the self and dharmas. Venerable Juehao encouraged everyone to refrain from being self-centred, thus eliminate our life’s 4 fundamental vexations, which are: Self Perception, Self Love, Self Arrogance, and Self Delusion. From the practice of repentance we can let go of our self centred biased, extreme views and plant seeds of Bodhi, thus able to cultivate wholesomeness.
