Ormiston Combined Probus Club Visits Fo Guang Shan
On the morning of 6th June, 23 elders from the Ormiston Combined Probus Club came to visit Fo Guang Shan temple. They were well received by Venerable Miaoyu and volunteer Linda Daniell. A guided tour around the temple was provided by Linda, explaining the meanings of various deep symbolisms that can be found in the Main Shrine, the Courtyard and the Pagoda.
Venerable Miaoyu explained the Buddhism stories behind Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva; and the various causes, conditions and effects that led to the Bodhisattva's achievements. The Venerable also explained the meanings of the 'Diamond Sutra' inscribed on the walls located at the back of Pagoda, which allows visitors and ancestors residing within the Pagoda, the ability to eliminate Karmic obstructions in their mind. When at the courtyard in amongst rows of lush greenery and cherry blossoms trees, none of the visitors were willing to leave as they were able to sense and experience the meaning of life's rebirth. When inside the Main Shrine after offering incense to the Buddha, Linda explained to the elders about the major vows of each of the Maha-Bodhisattvas; namely Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, Manjusri Bodhisattva and Samantabhra Bodhisattva.
Before leaving, all the elders expressed great respect and gave high praises towards the wonderful harmonious atmosphere of the temple and the beautiful sound of Buddhist hymns.
