Fo Guang Bodhi Class – Faith comes first
Fo Guang Bodhi Class – Faith comes first
On 13th June, BLIA Trustee Tina Hua Mei led 12 Bodhi class members to read and discuss Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s article “Faith comes first”
This piece centres on the gathas “Because of faith, one does not commit evil deeds. All merits and virtues, comes from having faith as one’s mission” These lines comes from the “Mahalankara Sastra”, which explains that faith takes one upwards, toward wholesomeness, and toward the truth. If we have faith then we will not commit evil deeds, advance forward, and accomplish all endeavors courageously. There was a story of a grandma, even though she is illiterate she diligently and whole-hearted chanted the 6 Syllable Heart Mantra for over 20 years using soy beans to keep count. Eventually the soy beans would jump by themselves from one container to another at each utterance of the Mantra. We can thus see that all virtues must originate from faith. If a person has faith, then they can turn negativity to opportunities and obtain achievements.
Throughout life there are many ups and downs, sometimes we can ever feel like being pulverized by hardship. But with faith we will not lose life’s values. But as long as we have faith in ourselves, then we will surly possess confidence and travel toward the path of success.
