Buddhist Wedding at Fo Guang Shan – Passing Down of Faith and Protecting the Dharma

01 / 05

On 11th May after the Mother’s Day Celebration, a beautiful wedding was held at Fo Guang Shan for Yu Quan Wu, son of honoured long standing volunteer De Jiang Wu. Guests of many nationalities including Vietnam, China, Tiawan and Hong Kong came to witness and celebrate this joyous occasion.

Under the lead of Venerable Abbess Manshin, the procession included recitation of the Heart Sutra, reading and declaration of marriage vows, and reading of Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s “Prayers and Wishes for Buddhist Weddings”, which encouraged new couples to always be there for each other, participate in engagements together, keep no secrets and often use words of humour and praise to each other. They were also reminded to have gratitude for one’s parents, friends and the Temple for bestowing them with many good conditions. This will allow them to recognise kindness and cherish fortune, so as to be close to the Triple Gem and establish a Buddhist family is the model of love.

Parents of the newly weds are a couple that are long term volunteers for the Temple. For many years they would come every Sunday to cook lunch for masses, maintain the garden, setting up venues, selling food and provide security. Not only have they tirelessly supported the Temple, they also managed to pass down the faith to the next generation. Mr Wu thanked the Temple for always providing blessings to his son during many events. During his family’s time spent at the Temple, not only have their mind found a place of refuge, but it is also the best expression of protecting the Dharma.
