Mother’s Day Celebrated at Fo Guang Shan – Repaying the Kindness of Mothers
On 11th May, a joyous Mother’s Day Celebration was organised by North Island YAD and Working Young Adults Division after the day’s Dharma Function.
The celebration started off by the showing of a short film called “Interview for the World’s Toughest Job”. Through a fake job interview, the film allowed everyone in the world to realize that world’s toughest occupation is that of a mother. Then Working Young Adults Division Chairperson Stephen Xu, Young Adults Division Team Leader 1 Kar Zin Leong, Team Leader 2 Daisy and Team Leader 3 Sin Jun spoke heart felt words on behalf of their group for the mothers. This included reminiscing their past times spent with their mothers and expressions of gratitude toward mum’s painstaking nurturing. These words brought tears to all mothers within the audience.
Afterwards the youths led young ones from the Children’s Dharma class to perform a dance called “All Mothers in the World are the Same” and presented gifts of flower garlands and personally handmade cupcakes to the mothers. Then a special cake was also brought out to express well wishes and good health to the mothers.
On this special day the youths did not forget to thank the Venerables for their mother like nurturing toward their daily conducts, encouragement for their education and guidance for their practice of the Dharma, where their compassion nourished the wisdom of the youth, which enriched their through constant practices and personal experiences.
Then offers of flowers were made to Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, followed by recitation of Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s “Prayers and Wishes for Mother’s Day”; wishing all mothers to receive good health and fulfilment of wishes. Under the help of teachers, students of the Chinese School personally made celebration cards as a special surprise for the mothers, thereby completing another Mother’s Day.
