Sunday Dharma Function – The Wondrous Medicine Buddha Method
On 18th May, a Sunday Dharma Function was held to recite the “Medicine Buddha Sutra” and “Prayers and Wishes to the Medicine Buddha” by Venerable Master Hsing Yun. This Function was joined by over 70 devotees.
Afterwards Venerable Rulian explained to the congregation the wondrous merits of the Medicine Buddha Method as well as how to practice accordingly. By looking at the meaning of the Medicine Buddha’s Title, it’s implying that the sickness of our mind must rely on the Buddha’s teachings as the remedy. So the “Medicine” in this case is even more important to our lives than pharmacies. It also encouraged us to not only act as a doctor that cures illness, but also become a teacher for beautification of the mind. By using the Buddha’s mind to adorn and purify society. Together we should learn according to Medicine Buddha’s 12 Great Vows toward alleviating the world’s suffering by holding a mind that is “beneficial and peaceful for all sentient beings” and actualising the 3 Good Deeds and 4 Kinds of Giving.
Finally the Venerable wished all sentient beings that upholds and hears the Medicine Buddha’s name will eliminate all sickness, obtain abundant material needs, receive happiness and be liberated from all suffering.
