Teacher and Pupils from Baradene College Visits Fo Guang Shan
On 18th March, under the lead of teacher Jason Farley, 56 well-mannered students from Baradene College for girls visited Fo Guang Shan as a part of their external learning. They were received by ESC volunteer Edward Chang where he explained to the visitors the symbolisms behind the stone lions, stone field of the courtyard, big bell, big drum and virtues and vows represented by the 4 Maha-Bodhisattvas. He also showed them how to offer incenses to the Buddha, explained the special concepts behind the Pagoda’s architecture, functions of the different Shrines and the culture of Buddhism.
The students were especially curious about the Ch’an stories from the “Ch’an Art, Ch’an Heart” exhibition, where they managed to contemplate life’s philosophies contained within. They also enjoyed how the outdoors art exhibitions managed to perfectly complement the temple garden’s natural sceneries.
Jason thanked the temple for arranging this tour for the students. This trip allowed them to better understand different cultures as well as receive educational benefits from Buddhist culture.
