Members of Fo Guang Shan Invited to NZ Police Commissioner’s Farewell Party
Having served the police force for 42 years, Commissioner Peter Marshall retired from the line of duty on March 2014. In order to celebrate this occasion, Manukau Police organised a farewell party for the commissioner at the Manurewa Cosmopolitan club on 7th March. Along with over two hundred officers, inspectors and their families, members of Fo Guang Shan were also invited, including Venerable Abbess Manshin, Venerable Juehao, Venerable Zhiming, Dolly Tsai, President of BLIA (North Island), Director Annie Ng and other BLIA members.
During his speech, the Commissioner thanked everyone’s great co-operation during his 3 years as Commissioner. Together, everyone has provided great contributions to society; hence he hopes there will be further advancements in the future.
Ethnic Affairs Minister Hon Judith Collins also praised Commissioner Marshall for his many contributions to a harmonious society and great reputation as an officer. Then on behalf of NZ police, Superintendent John Tims present a medal of merit to the Commissioner. This was in order to thank him for being a decisive and wise leader as well as a good example for the entire force.
The Abbess also directly thanked the Commissioner for his support and care toward Maori culture and multiculturalism in general. The temple was especially grateful that he took time out of his busy schedule to visit on 2013. This clearly displayed the Commissioner’s caring attitude toward the public. Hence on behalf of everyone from Fo Guang Shan North, the Abbess bide the Commissioner many happy returns.
