Representatives of Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery 1 Invitied to Join the Prize Giving Ceremony to the 8th Estuary Art Competition by Uxbridge Creative Centre

On 13th March, representatives of Fo Guan Yuan Art Gallery 1 including Venerable Juehao, Venerable Zhiming, BLIA Member Sally and Melody were invited to attend Uxbridge Creative Centre’s “2014 8th Annual Estuary Art Prize Award Ceremony”. Other VIPS included Len Brown, Mayor of Auckland; David Collins, Local Howick MP; Joy Oxford, Chairperson of Uxbridge Creative Centre; Vice Chairperson Adele White, Manager Tony Morgan, Curator Emma Topping and Louise Pether, Head of Auckland Art Gallery’s Special Exhibition Section.

Joy Oxford and Tony Morgan thanked everyone for joining this event. Special thanks were given to Venerable Abbess Manshin, Venerable Juehao and President Dolly Tsai’s constant co-operation and support over the years through Fo Guan Yuan Art Gallery 1.

On behalf of the judging panel, Louise Pether expressed that it’s great to see so many talented artists in the Howick area. Their works showcased different styles as well including the beauty of nature, emphasising the importance of environmental protection. She also handed out prizes to first place holder Wei Lun Liang for his work “Scapose” and second place winner Brendon Sellars for his work “Bird/State”. The third place winner will be decided by voting.

Mayor Len Brown praised Howick for its rich arts and culture. He also expressed high regards for Uxbridge Creative Centre for providing local artists a place to unleash their creativity. This yearly Estuary Art Competition also brings the important message of environmental protection to the public.

The Estuary Art Competition has been exhibited at Fo Guang Shan for over 3 years. Everyone are welcome to enjoy these art works again when they will be displayed at Fo Guan Yuan Art Gallery later this year.
