Fo Guang Shan Invited to NZ Police’s “Everyday Heroes” – Tempering the Magnanimity of Life

With the support of local Council, Counties Manukau Police held their “Everyday Heroes” day at Barry Curtis Park on 22nd February. Fo Guang Shan was invited to join this special day for the second year in a row. This open day for the public was held in order to demonstrate services provided by the police, fire department and St John emergency teams toward ensuring community safety. The event included live demonstrations and sharing of many useful information regarding workings of various police units and applicable safety tips for everyday life. The day’s activities attracted over one thousand visitors.

After words of blessing from Maori elder Kaumatua Sunny, Venerable Abbess Manshin led Venerables and 30 BLIA members to chant the “Heart Sutra” and performed the song “We are One” with hand gestures.

Superintendent John Tims thanked BLIA for supporting this event. He expressed that “People are always interested in the work we do so we want get the community involved to see how it all works.” In order to truly establish social harmony, the strength of religion is needed to plant wholesome seeds into people’s heart, thereby purifying our community
