Sunday Dharma Service - TVBS Program "Poster Personality" Interviews Venerable Master Hsing Yun
The Sunday Dharma Function on 23rd February was joined by a congregation nearing one hundred, where they proceeded to chant the “Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance” text and recited “Prayers and Wishes for Lay Buddhist Disciples” by Venerable Master Hsing Yun.
Afterwards Venerable Juehao played for the congregation a video clip of Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s interview on TVBS’s program “Poster Personality”. During which the presenter queried the Venerable Master’s thoughts on the Great Compassion Shrine as well as its significance in relation to Fo Guang Shan. Questions regarding the story of Venerable Master’s original ordination and the meaning of Humanistic Buddhism were also brought up during the interview.
Through the interview the Venerable Master expressed that “I have not forgotten my initial aspirations despite becoming a Venerable Master, for maintaining that initial aspirational heart is very important. If we have illusory thoughts and ulterior motives we will become distracted. We often say that where there is Dharma, there is a way. This is not merely a slogan, but motivation to our cultivation.”
The Venerable Master also encouraged the public to not shy away from hardship, because hardship can be a kind of education, motivation and nutrient for us. For that more hardship we can endure then more strength we can obtain. Humanistic Buddhism is Buddhism that ventures out from the isolation of forest and mountain monasteries and enters the mundane world to serve families and communities. This is achieved by discovering the light that can illuminate our humanity through insignificant and significant moments of everyday life.
