Fo Guang Bodhi Class – Be motivated by wholesome deeds
On 28th March BLIA Trustee Tina Hua Mei led 8 Bodhi class elders to read “Be motivated by wholesome deeds” by Venerable Master Hsing Yun. From the Buddhist text “Black Silk Gate Admonitions” there is a gatha that goes “Be motivated when observing wholesome deeds, do not stray near when witnessing unwholesome deeds, even while dwelling within a dark room, one should still behave respectfully as if greeting an honoured guest.” It reminds us to always wholeheartedly commit good deeds, and always sever all evil deeds without hesitation. Every moment we should observe our minds with alert, thus cultivating our thoughts according to the Way, and increase the strength of our mind for practice. During our life, all wholesome and evil causes and effects are within one thought; hence we should be wary of our every thoughts and intentions. After living in a dark room for a thousand years, the light of one lamp can instantly illuminate us to what lies within. When our mind has light, we can see clearly the road ahead. The light of one lamp can pierce darkness and bring safety to people. One ray of sunshine can illuminate the four directions and fill people with hope.
