BLIA Youth Shares Their Summer Camp Experience
On 18th January after the completion of YAD’s summer camp, Venerable Abbess Manshin held a heart-warming talk with the youths. It was also joined by BLIA North Island President Stephan Xu, Advisor Dolly Tsai and parents, in total 20 people in attendance.
Young participant Wei Xue Chen expressed that even though she was nervous at the beginning, but now she is confident. Every night she would practice breathing meditation and the disciplined environment improved her attitude and quality of character to life.
Participant Annie Tang shared her most memorable moment as when hearing about the story of “World’s number one village”. This allowed her to understand that wealth isn’t possession but sharing. She also uses Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s words: “One word of promise to be faithfully kept for a whole life” to remind her to remain on the path of practice with determination.
Other youths shared many things they’ve received during this summer camp, such as learning about Venerable’s life from the book “Passing down the light”, where they received inspirations for life through Venerable Master’s reflections on life and received wisdom from Venerable Master’s Dharma words from the Culture Corridors.
President Xu shared his envy for the young participants because they have the fortune to encounter Buddhism at such a young age. He therefore encouraged everyone to learn, investigate and real action to nurture the right attitude, as well as to often recharge themselves at the temple.
Venerable Abbess gave gifts of prayer beads to the youths in order to encourage them to cherish the present moment to diligently work hard. View Buddhism as life’s compass to do valuable things, say valuable things and to take responsibilities.
