Presentation to AIESEC (University of Auckland)
On Wednesday 8th October, Fo Guang Shan (North Island) has been invited to attend an ACTIVATE event which was organised by AIESEC. Vice President of the BLIA (North Island)- Linda Daniell attended on behalf as a guest speaker and gave a presentation to a group of 50 undergraduate members of AIESEC at the University of Auckland. The topic of the presentation was ‘The Buddhist Perspective on Wealth’.
AIESEC is the largest global, student-run organisation for a purpose, aimed at providing young people with experiential leadership and global exchange opportunities. This organisation enables young people to explore and develop their leadership potential so that they may have a positive impact on society.
During the presentation, BLIA Vice President Linda talked about the Noble Eightfold Path and Five Precepts based on the teaching of Venerable Master Hsing Yun(Humanistic Buddhism: A blueprint for life) as guiding principles on which to base their accumulation of wealth. Linda suggested ways in which they might take a holistic approach that would have far ranging benefits for the wider community and country thereby impacting on the global perception of wealth. In concluding her presentation Linda said she hoped to have sown seeds to be nurtured and grow into a positive view of wealth that is more than material gain.
