Zen Furniture Exhibition

01 / 14

It has been 2 years since the February Earthquake. Even though the demolitions and repairs are still going on, artist Simon Jones had successfully transformed the remains of some of the demolished buildings into modern furniture. A Zen Furniture Exhibition was held as a result to show the public his creativity.

Simon is a graduate of University of Canterbury. He learnt a great deal from Christchurch sculptor Graham Bennett and had previously held another exhibition called “The Red to the Black Expo” in Wellington. His current focus is on furniture design and most of his creations come from recyclable waste. He likes the touch of Zen and feels honoured to hold his exhibition in Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery.

Venerable Abbess Manshin mentioned in her speech during the opening ceremony, that the art gallery is the best gift from Fo Guang Shan founder Venerable Master Hsing Yun to Christchurch and urge the public to use it wisely. She acknowledged Simon’s talent and felt touched by his creation. Simon thanked everyone who had helped him to make this event a success and hoped that everyone enjoys this exhibition as he really put his heart into it.

The visitors liked the exhibition very much. Words of praise can be heard everywhere. This exhibition brings life into Christchurch, marking the arrival of spring in no time.
