Farewells to the memories of Royal New Zealand Police College Principal The Royal New Zealand Police College


The Royal New Zealand Police College Principal Superintendent Mike Wilson passed away on the evening of 28th July due to liver cancer, at the age of 46. On 1st August, the Royal Police Academy held a solemn farewell ceremony for the Superintendent. Venerable Abbess Manshin, Fo Guang Shan South Island Minister in Charge Venerable JueXi, and Fo Guang Shan International Association Chairperson Annie Ng also attended the Ceremony. Prior on 22nd July, the Abbess visited Superintendent Wilson in Wellington during his final days, where they conversed briefly and received blessings from the Abbess.
The ceremony was attended by a number of V.I.P.s, including Police Commissioner Peter Marshall, Former Police Commissioner Howard Broad, Superintendent Wallace Haumaha, assistant Police Commissioners, police supervisors, inspectors, Maori elders, friends, and families, to the total of almost 500 people. The ceremony was presided over by New Zealand Royal Police College Chaplain Padre David Dell. The proceedings included blessings from the Chaplain, words of remembrance from Deputy Commissioner Viv Rickard Jo Wilson, Maori songs of praise, and eulogy from family members. The casket flag and Principal Wilson’s police cap were neatly folded and presented to his family by the Police Commissioner.
