Sunday Dharma Service – Right Attitude While Listening to the Dharma

01 / 02

On the morning of 8th September, 60 devotees gathered inside the Main Shrine to recite the “Amitabha Sutra” and “Prayers to Amitabha Buddha” by Venerable Master Hsing Yun.

Venerable Rulian talked about the right attitude to have while listening to the Dharma by lines from “The Way to Buddhahood Verses” which went: “Like elements carrying water, like the field sown with seeds, three kinds of losses should be avoided”. This is to encourage everyone to cultivate with the right view, which involves avoiding three types of misdeeds. Those who possess an arrogant mind, ‘biased and wrong views’, and ‘delusional and illusory thoughts’. Instead we should practice with a mind that is sincere, respectful, righteous, humble, soft and pure, thus able to connect heart to heart with the Buddha. This enables us to obtain strength and benefits from the Dharma.

Afterwards segments from Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s tv program “One Hundred Lessons on Monastery Languages and Affairs” were shown to the congregation, encouraging everyone to understand the virtue of upholding the 5 Precepts. If we live by the Precepts, then the body and mind will be pure.
