English Language Saturday Buddhist Service – Multiculturalism
On the morning of 31st August, last day of winter, 8 members from different nationalities including America, New Zealand, China, Malaysia and South Africa gathered inside the Pagoda to participate in Saturday Service. Under the guidance of Venerable Miaoyu, they experienced the practice of Buddhism and multiculturalism.
Venerable Miaoyu explained the Buddha’s teaching on how to “obtain a happy life”. This requires:
1. Right livelihood – We need to make a living in a wholesome manner, which would not involve death or theft.
2. Make savings – Since life is impermanent, we need to keep some money aside in case of a rainy day.
3. Have good friends - We should created connections with wholesome people and good Dharma friends, and avoid unwholesome people and influences.
4. Right standard of Living – Having a good standard of living means we can be contented, joyful, able to help others and contribute to society.
