BNZ Staff Volunteers at Fo Guang Shan as a Part of “Close for Good”
Every year BNZ bank would stop work for one day for their “Closed for Good” initiative, in which staff took the day to do volunteer work for local schools and community organisations. On the afternoon of 4th September at 9:30am, 40 BNZ members arrived at Fo Guang Shan to their 4th year of volunteering under the leadership of manager Lee Cui.
The volunteers split into 5 groups to attend various tasks around the temple under group leaders Karen, Steven Goh, Simon, the couple Ji Hong Zhang and Ying Ping Liu, and Shi Qin. The first 3 groups were assigned to do weeding below the Front Shrine, 4th group assigned to clean the temple, and 5th group assigned to clean the kitchen. These blue t-shirt adorned volunteers diligently worked and supported each other, thus showing BNZ staff’s perseverance and caring attitude.
Their manager Lee Cui expressed that BNZ hopes to create a good image for their organisation by giving back to the community, thus choosing to come and help out at the temple. Fo Guang Shan is known for its positive influence to society through families and the local community, hence the volunteers wants to come and personally experience this positive energy, thus elevating their inner being.
After the day’s work, Venerable Yulian took the volunteers to enjoy Venerable Dou Pu’s comic art and then gave them gifts of “2013 NZ BLIA Report” and “Way of Life” books. This is to show the temple’s appreciation for BNZ’s yearly hard working contributions here.
