Participation YAD in ‘Keep NZ Beautiful Week’
On 17 September 2016, led by its Young Division Adult (YAD) leader Zhang Dong and accompanied by BLIA South Island Vice President James Low, YAD Adviser Jason Liu, 15 members of BLIA South Island YAD participated in the ‘Keep New Zealand Beautiful Week’ campaign organised by Keep NZ beautiful organisation.
The contingent first met at the FGS South Island Temple before heading for Hagley Park in the centre of the City where they were then split into two teams to collect rubbish in the Park. Accompanied by her mother, our youngest participant, Jill, who is just 6 years old, became the star attraction and earned many praises from the Public. After immersing in their effort for two hours, the participants finally started the sorting- out exercise where the rubbish were separated into various categories. This sorting- out was monitored by BLIA South Island Vice President James Low.
Before dispersion, BLIA South Island YAD leader Zhang Dong thanked the members for their participation and expressed his view that this little effort would contribute positively towards making Christchurch a better place to live in and at the same time help members fulfil the practice of “3 Good Deeds and 4 Giving” as expounded by Ven Master Hsing Yun. Zhang Dong also took the opportunity to inform the participants that BLIA South Island YAD would be the organiser for the “2017 Australia-New Zealand BLIA Youth Conference (ANZBYC)” and the present rubbish clearing activity could very well serve as a prelude and warming up the 2017 big Event. The YAD leader also encouraged YAD members to actively participate in the many future YAD activities that YAD South Island has planned for them.
