Minister of Corrections Judith Collins Visits Fo Guang Shan
On 1st April Judith; Minister of Corrections visited the temple. She was received by Venerable Abbess Manshin, Venerable Rulian, Dolly Tsai; BLIA North Island Head Adviser, Sally Wong; Vice President and BLIA Committee Members, altogether 20 people to welcome the guests.
Through a short one hour tour, the Abbess explained to the Minister about Fo Guang Shan’s development history, concepts regarding culture and education, development in localisation, features of the tea house, courtyard, Ch’an garden, Shrines and the ink painting exhibition in the art gallery. Minister Collins attentively listened and asked many questions and praising the volunteer’s hospitality.
Then a few short films were shown to the Minister regarding the temple’s “3G4G Festival of Culture Sharing” and free distribution of Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s “366 Days with Wisdom” throughout the country, they were narrated by members Vice Chair Sally Wong and Member Annie Ng. To this the Minister highly praised the temple and volunteer’s efforts at giving back to the community, bringing many positive results. Then the Minister shared with everyone the government’s efforts at rehabilitating female prisoners, training guide dogs and other public services.
