01 / 10

In order to promote and broaden the interactions between different religions in Christchurch, the Christchurch Interfaith Society invited the youths from various religions to join the touring of St Marys Pro Cathedral in Christchurch CBD on 27th Sep. Seven Buddha’s Light International Association Youth Adult Division (BLIA YAD) South Island members together with the youths from Catholic and Christian groups participated in this activity. On behalf of the organizer, Sister Bertha Hurley and Matt, the youth from the Catholic group welcomed the participants and thanked everyone for joining this meaningful event.

Matt introduced and explained to all the participants the basic Catholic believes, rites and church designs. Matt pointed out that Blessed Virgin Mary and Queen Maya had one thing in common which is they both were the mother of a great religious saint. Matt also showed and explained the meanings of the Catholic apparels and censers to the youths present. Sister Hurley answered the questions from the youths and explained the difference between Catholic and Christian.

Matt hoped that this kind of event could be held often so that the youths from different religions can gather together to have better understanding about each other. On behalf of BLIA South Island, Secretary James thanked Sister Hurley and Matt for the great experience on that day. James welcomed all the youths to come to the temple to have a look when the rebuild is finished next year. The event concluded with the thoughts and experiences shared by the participants on that day.
