Blossom of Sakura in the CHCH Spring Season

01 / 10

Is this the Japanese Sakura Season? No, it is the Christchurch’s spring season. The Sakura trees bloomed all over the Hagley Park. It is known as the “Yoshino” and belongs to a variety of Sakura blossoms in Japan, the earliest blooming type. Located in the southern hemisphere of the earth, Christchurch has gradually entered into a warmer climate from September onwards. Flowers began to blooms during this time of the year and the most fascinating thing to do is to enjoy the blossoms of Yoshino in the park. In the past, the Sakura trees were planted along the Hagley Park by Christchurch City Council. This is to promote Christchurch into becoming a beautiful garden city.

In this sunny weekend, Christchurch residents and tourists came over to the park with their cameras, taking photos for memories. A Japanese family collected the fallen petals from the floor and formed a heart shape. The parents took photos of their kids standing inside the petal-made heart shape. Others felt warm of this creative scene.

Other than that, many Sakura lovers came over to take some good shots of the flowers. They carefully recorded this beautiful and memorable occurrence. FGS devotees, Patrick also brought along his wife and kids to enjoy the Sakura blossoms and recorded some good memories. The public became more active in outdoor activities and more enjoyable in the warm Sakura blossom season. Goodbye winter and welcome spring.
