The “2014 Light Offering Ceremony” was held on 16th February. The ceremony was presided by Venerable Abbess Manshin, whom led a congregation of 200 to chant “Universal Gate of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva” and “Prayers and Wishes for Light Offering” by Venerable Master Hsing Yun. Everyone wished for blessings from the Buddha, as well as peace and auspiciousness for this New Year of the Horse.
Afterwards the Abbess spoke about how our lives are often between the states of confusion and awakening. Therefore she encouraged everyone to discover a piece of wisdom, understanding and compassion through our faith towards Buddhism. This will lead us to obtain a piece of stability and happiness. Then we can bravely face life’s challenges and cherish every causes and conditions. Because of the conditions of having this temple, we have the privilage of receiving Buddhist teachings and practice accordingly. From these positive influences, we can strengthen our faith and nurture our wholesome nature.
The Buddha often said that “One who sees the Dharma can see the Buddha”. Hence all disciples that have taken Refuge under the Triple Gem should often uphold right thoughts to unveil one’s Buddha nature. Unlimited energy can be excavated from right faith. As a community, we should all practice the lighting of lights, diligence, transcendence and acceptance of the Buddha’s light of wisdom. Develop a sense of gratitude from softening of our hearts and shatter ignorance with the light of Prajna wisdom.
