“Ch’an Heart, Ch’an Art” Exhibition Opens at Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery 1 – One Drawing One World, One Ch’an One Universe

On 18th January, the “Ch’an Heart, Ch’an Art” exhibition opened at Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery 1. This exhibition show cased Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s many retelling of classic gong-ans (Ch’an case study) in approachable and lively prose. Each gong-an is complimented by a striking painting done in the classical Ch’an style by the renowned husband and wife team of Ertai Gao and Xiaoyu Pu. The painting and proses expresses truth that is beyond ever changing mundane knowledge. For all practitioners of Ch’an, the exhibited pieces provided great artistic angles of contemplation. The recounting of these Ch’an stories expressed the Venerable Master’s life philosophy and wisdom.

The artist couple of Ertai Gao and Xiaoyu Pu were trained under the tutelage of many famous artist. With their experience they carved out a new path with their unique style, which included influences from extensive research of wide varieties of collections. They had spent over 10 years studying in Dunghuang, which had increased their skills immensely. While staying at Hsi Lai Temple, the couple create 100 paintings for “Ch’an Heart Ch’an Art”.

The instability and chaos of the modern world often causes stress and anxiety. The Ch’an Dharma method gives us the strength to settle body and mind. Ch’an paintings have the public serving ability of providing both education and entertainment. This exhibition will be held until 30th March, all are welcome to come and enjoy.
