Second Day of Emperor Liang Repentance Dharma Function

On the morning of 26th May at 9:00am Fo Guang Shan continued its second day of Emperor Liang Repentance Dharma function.

Venerable Abbess Manshin led 200 devotees to recite the 2nd chapter of “Emperor Liang Repentance Text”, paying homage to Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in order to purify our 3 types of unwholesome karma, and adorning ourselves through dignified chanting.

The Abbess spoke about the Repentance text being composed of 10 fascicle, 40 chapters, and include over 2000 Buddha’s titles. Through paying homage and chanting, not only should we seek to understand the text through words, it’s more important to personally understand, experience and make connections with Buddhas. Offerings of incense, flowers, lights, perfumes, fruits, tea, food, precious pearls, precious gems, and clothing are made to express our sincere gratitude toward Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.

The Abbess further explained the 52 stages of fulfilling the Bodhisattva path, which includes 10 levels of faith, 10 levels of abiding, 10 levels of practice, 10 levels of transferring merit, 10 grounds, 10 non-discriminating realisation, and 10 levels of wondrous realisation. The diligent practice of Humanistic Buddhism can allow us to advance from the basic level joyful ground all the way to the 10th level Dharma cloud stage, thus obtaining perfectly fulfilled realisation. The Abbess encouraged everyone to untie their mind’s obstructions, eliminate afflictions and pre-conceptions, and continue to uplift each other’s lives in order to increase Bodhi and arrive at the destination of liberation.
