Emperor Liang Repentance Dharma Function

From 25th May – 2nd June Fo Guang Shan held its fort annual Emperor Liang Repentance Dharma Function. Through which we can bless and liberate our deceased love ones and enable our country to avert calamities and receive fortune.

On the morning of 25th May at 9:00am, over 200 devotees recited the first chapter of “Emperor Liang Repentance” text under the leadership of Venerable Abbess Manshin. The congregation sincerely paid homage and repented for their past transgressions. Under an atmosphere of harmonious chanting and unified ceremonial actions, everyone used the Dharma water of wisdom to wash away their past Karmic transgressions, concentrate thoughts, and eliminate Karmic obstructions. All merits obtained were transferred to our current parents and past ancestors, wishing those that are living to obtain longevity and health, and those that have passed leave suffering, obtain joy and obtain rebirth within the Pure Land.

Afterwards the Abbess informed everyone about “Emperor Liang Repentance” text’s statues at as the “King of all Repentance Texts”. This is treasured Repentance Text that benefits both the living and the deceased. Within the text, there are 6 recommended Dharma Gates, which are:
1. Taking Refuge under the Triple Gem
2. Sever doubts
3. Sincere Homage through Repentance
4. Initiate Bodhi Mind
5. Make wide encompassing vows
6. Transferring Merits

The Abbess encouraged everyone to take refuge under the Triple Gem, take refuge under wisdom, continuously to find our true self through repentance, learn to concentrate and discard illusory thoughts, and completely discard our dependence on attachments and afflictions caused by greed, anger, ignorance, arrogance and doubt. Thus arrive at the gate of liberation to become our own masters.
