BLIA English sub-chapter transcribes “Eight Realisations of a Bodhisattva Sutra”
On the night of 22nd May, despite heavy rains, over 10 ESC members donned their Hai Ching and robes to transcribe Buddhist sutras under the guidance of Venerable Miaoyu. Everyone present mutually strengthened their faith and actualised the practice of Humanistic Buddhism.
Venerable Miaoyu explained that due to the recent “8 Realisations of a Bodhisattva sutra” recitation competition, many members have diligently practiced reciting the sutra in pinyin and English, thus allowed more understanding and realisations toward the sutra’s contents. Hence everyone aspired to further strengthen their memorisation of the sutra by practicing with sutra transcription. Fortunately due to the conditions of the recent “Emperor Liang’s Repentance Dharma Function”, the Main Shrine has been solemnly adorned, thus becoming a prefect and precious opportunity to transcribe sutras.
Later Venerable Abbess Manshin arrived to explain the “8 Realisations of a Bodhisattva sutra” to everyone. The Abbess concentrated on the 6th realisation, which reads: “Sixth, realize that those who are poor and suffering have more resentment, and that this leads them to create unwholesome conditions. A bodhisattva practices giving and has equal concern for friend and foe. He does not recollect past unwholesome deeds committed against him, nor does he hate unwholesome people.” Through this the Abbess expounded ways to develop our Bodhi mind, by alluding to “pulling out weeds”, it’s explained that our mind is impoverished and full of resentments, which are caused by roots of desire that seeks for what we cannot have, and contaminated by greed, anger, ignorance, resentment, love and loss. Through the practice of Right view within the 8 Venerable Paths, the meritorious field within our mind can thus create many wholesome Karmic connections. This will solidify our resolve and strengthen our faith, and allow us to continue the Buddhist Way diligently.
