Alfriston College Schools Attends Buddhism Lecture at the Temple
On 20th June 23 15 year old students from Alfriston College and their teacher Ms Marianne Wullings came to the temple to receive a temple tour from volunteer Nick and Buddhism lesson from Venerable Miaoyu.
During the tour Nick showed them the Front Shrine, Main Shrine, Pagoda, Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery 1’s “One Stroke Calligraphy Exhibition by Venerable Master Hsing Yun” and “Siddhartha in the Human World Exhibition”, and Zen Garden. He also explained the symbolism and Dharma propagation functions of the scenery and architectures. Everyone enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere along the way.
Then they listened to Venerable Maioyu gave a lecture about “The Meaning of Triple Gem and 4 Nobel Truth”. With real life examples she explained the meaning of the Triple Gem within Buddhism’s context and how to understand and apply the principals of the 4 Nobel Truths in real life. Then during Q and A and discussion time, exchange between students allowed them to develop better understanding toward Buddhism’s 48000 types of Dharma methods and their application as medicines to cure sentient being’s mental sickness during daily lives. Even one advise from the Buddha is Dharma elixir with inexhaustible benefit.
