Local Teachers Benefit Immensely from Consecutive Meditation Classes at the Temple
Teachers from the nearby Sancta Maria College have attended a month long Meditation Class at the temple every Thursday, which was completed on 23rd March. The day’s meditation was led by Venerable Miaoyu, Head of English and Community Education. She led the teachers to practice slow walking meditation and sitting meditation along the Pagoda walkway. This recharged the group’s energy after a busy day through the stillness of Ch’an meditation and tranquil sound of the cascading water.
Afterwards Venerable Abbess Manshin held a Q&A session inside the Meditation Hall, where she invited the teachers to share their insights after a whole month of meditation. Then the Abbess expressed that many students often have very creative and innovative ideas, so if a teacher is willing to learn from their students and encourage their ideas, then they can both improve together. The Buddha has said that: “Whether above or below the heavens, I am the most honoured.” This conveyed that everyone person has the hidden treasure of their potentials, so teachers and students can developed themselves together, to take ownership of their lives and become a sculptor of their own minds.
A teacher thanked the temple for providing this peaceful and tranquil venue to practice meditation. After a few weeks of classes he has realised that the responsibility of a teacher is to uncover their student’s potentials, but in order to do that they must sort themselves out first.
The Abbess shared that this temple is designed with the concept of teaching the Dharma through its space and presence, which allows the visitors to feel their mind settling at ease as soon as they stepped onto temple ground, then the serene and harmonious atmosphere within will help each person to find themselves. Finally the Abbess assured the teachers they are always welcome to come back anytime to recharge their batteries.
