01 / 10

Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) South Island New Zealand “Sharing wisdom with travellers” book donation drive proceeds on with strong momentum. Under the supervision and persistence of BLIA South Island Vice President Elsa, North One Sub-chapter President Jessie Teo and BLIA Director William many more Christchurch hotels and motels have requested for copies of Master Hsing Yun’s “366 days with Wisdom” book. Fo Guang Shan (FGS) South Island Supervisor Venerable Jue Xi, BLIA Vice President Louisa Kuo and James Low, and several BLIA Director, a total of 8 people, visited Heartland Hotel in Christchurch City Centre on the 21st of August. A total of 77 copies of the book was donated to two of the duty managers who originated from Thailand and Sri Lanka.

Myo Thein from Thailand and Geshan Des from Sri Lanka described themselves as devoted Buddhists, and was especially happy when this book donation was approved by the hotel’s administration. Not only were they extremely pleased, but also hopeful that travelling visitors to the hotel will be touched by some of Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s wisdom and Buddhism concepts. They also promised to casually let visitors know if the temple is hosting any special functions and activities, or if there is any volunteering work to be done. BLIA South Island is very welcoming of their kind words and noted that the temple is hosting a Mid-Autumn Festival dinner on the 25th of September.

The BLIA folks then proceeded to Admiral Motel to provide 10 copies of the “366 days” book to Rick the owner. Rick expressed how he had some experience with Theravada Buddhism and appreciated having some Buddhism books on site as something complementary to the usual Christian related texts. He remarked on how Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s “366 days” book has many nice essays that were short but nonetheless moving, especially for the soul. BLIA South Island New Zealand continues to garner a lot of interest from this book donation drive, and it is hoped that by the end of this year, there will be many more hotels and motels taking part in this activity.
