Fo Guang Shan Invited to Nepal Earthquake Fundraiser
On 27th July, Venerable Abbess Manshin, Minister in Charge Venerable Juehao, Venerable Miaoyu and 12 BLIA members were invited to Papatoetoe Shree Swaminrayan Hindu Temple for a Fundraiser event for the Earthquake in Nepal. Other special guests included Rakesh Naidoo; Police Inspector and representatives from New Zealand Hindu associations, Nepal associations and Global Chamber of Commerce, altogether over one hundred in attendance.
The Nepalese earthquake on 25th April has caused many shattered families in Nepal as well as having serious effects on the funds for exchange students studying here in New Zealand. Not only were they shocked emotionally, worries of their livelihood has also became a concern. Besides providing disaster at the fist instant, BLIA will also contribute to fund the living and studying cost for these students along with all other kind hearted organisations here in New Zealand.
After the fund raiser, the police thanked everyone’s generous help during this critical moment. These timely kindnesses will surely bring peace to all whom are affected as well as become encouragement for them to persevere. The Abbess led her congregation to chant Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s “Prayers and Wishes for Earthquake Victims” as well as bestowing blessings and encouragement for these disaster affected students.
On behalf of everyone, student representative Sam Malafeh expressed their deep gratitude to the kindness of so many different ethnic groups in New Zealand.
