2nd Round of 366 Days Book Gifting in South Island

01 / 08

Following the success of the “366 Days with Wisdom” Book Gifting Mission launched on 16th January 2017, the NZ 366 Adventurous Team from North Island carried out another round of book gifting mission on the 9th and 10th of February 2017. The aim of this exercise was to further increase the exposure rate of the book “366 Days with Wisdom” in Christchurch. In these two days, in addition to visiting the motels which had already accepted the books, the 366 Team also visited those motels which had yet to make up their mind on the offer, and those which had previously rejected the offer. In their 9 hour journey in these 2 days, the Team visited 37 motels in all, and managed to secure the support of 33 motels, with another 2 motels pending decision. This was a remarkable achievement!

Owner of Christchurch City Park Motel told the NZ 366 Adventurous Team that the book “366 Days with Wisdom” has been well received by the guests. Often while cleaning the rooms, they found copies of the book lying on the beds and tables and in the dining hall, indicating that the books have been taken from the shelves and read by the guests. To date, 10 copies of the book have even been taken away by the customers. In the same vein, Christchurch Football Club Manager Karen requested for 2 copies of “366 Days with Wisdom” to be placed in the guest room for the reading pleasure of the club members.

NZ 366 Adventurous Team Leader Annie Ng observed that generally Christchurch motel operators were quite open in their outlook. Besides welcoming the book “366 Days with Wisdom” by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, some also expressed an interest in further understanding Humanistic Buddhism. For example, Lincoln Motel owner enquired about the Core Concepts behind Buddhism, and the purpose and meaning in the distribution of the book “366 Days with Wisdom”. To these enquires, NZ 366 Adventurous Team was able to offer satisfactory answers and explanations. The Lincoln Motel owner later praised the 366 Adventurous Team for their efforts, and thanked Fo Guang Shan for their contributions towards New Zealand.
