The Temple Gives Away 8 Treasured Porridge and New Year’s Couplet to Celebrate the Buddha’s Day of Enlightenment
In order to celebrate the Buddha’s Day of Enlightenment, the temple have made many servings of delicious “8 Treasure Porridge” to share with all devotees and visitors between the days of 1st – 8th January.
On 5th January, since 5am, Venerable Abbess Manshin and the Venerables gathered with 50 volunteers including members of BLIA, YAD and the kitchen to prepare and package the porridge ready to be delivered to devotees and local businesses. This was carried out efficiently and harmoniously with everyone forming into working groups.
By 9am the dining hall was opened to allow the visitors to savour the delicious porridge. The visitors were very appreciative of these kind offerings made by the temple and the volunteers. They all felt blessed by Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.
The event coordinator Pauline (who has been BLIA North Island’s Secretary for over 10 years) expressed that this is a very worthwhile mission. Seeing the people’s faces that got to taste and receive the porridge made her happy. She also mentioned this result was only possible due to team work, and that this is a day to celebrate the Dharma, hence she hopes all who has savoured the porridge can receive perfect Wisdom.
The Abbess reminded the volunteers that doing things wholeheartedly is a kind of offering. She also encouraged everyone by talking about the joy brought about from making and sharing the porridge. All these sincere giving will surely yield in an abundance of merits and brighter lives for everyone.
