01 / 05

In order to increase public awareness toward environmental projection through better disposal of rubbish, Auckland Council organised a “Waste Minimisation Workshop” at the temple on 8th June. This event was attended by 60 members of BLIA and the public. The workshop was preceded by Venerable Miaoyu leading English sub-chapter members to recite Sutras and offer prayers.

The workshop was conducted by Jenny Chilcott and Kate Lowe, where they covered subjects such as:
1. Reducing rubbish going into land fill.
2. Reducing usage of items that are not easily biodegradable.
3. Encouraging the public to promote environmental protection within the community
4. Composting methods
The above topics were delivered through relaxed and humorous manner which increased awareness toward the importance of protecting the environment from reducing rubbish at the landfill.

Event organiser Lance Watene thanked the temple for the contribution of venue and equipment for this event and showed their appreciation by presenting gifts of Bokashi buckets to the temple.
