Welcoming the New YAD members of BLIA South Island

01 / 09

On 5th April, the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) South Island NZ Youth Adult Division (YAD) welcomed five new members into the team. They were received by BLIA South Island NZ Second Chapter President Cao Qian, Director Committee member Kok Wei Low, YAD leader Ni Ling Chia and YAD member Apple Ma.

Cao Qian explained the philosophy of Humanistic Buddhism to the group, including some Buddhist rituals, title, as well as activities held by temple. Kok Wei took the new members on a tour around the temple. From the temple’s architecture to the art gallery and main shrine, he explained the meaning and function of each section of the compound. Later on, Ni Ling Chia and Apple Ma led the group to learn some hand gestures to the tune of the song Harmonise, which is a fun and lively way to deepen their understanding of Fo Guang Shan, and also to prepare them for performing at the upcoming Buddha’s Birthday Multicultural Festival on coming week.

The new members were full of amasement at how Humanistic Buddhism can be brought into our daily life and they feel that they have learned so much in just one day. They hope to visit the temple more often in the future, find more opportunities to volunteer and connect with people.
