The Magnificence of Embroidery Exhibition at Fo Guang Yuan (FGY) Art Gallery Christchurch not only makes the elderlies in Christchurch crazy over it, but also attracts the patronage of people of different nationalities and ethnicities. On late July 2021, 8 ladies from the Japanese Kimono Club, dressed in Japanese kimonos, visited the Embroidery Exhibition, and were received by Art Gallery staff Juin Mei.

At the Exhibition Hall, Juin Mei introduced to the visitors Yao Hong Ying’s technique and methodology used to create her embroidery works, including splitting a single thread into 64 tinier threads, and using random stitch technique and fine flat technique, to produce fine, elegant and clean embroidery works. The visitors were full of admirations and praises for Yao Hong Ying's dedication. They remarked that although there is also embroidery art in Japan, they have yet to see such high-quality works as Yao’s.

Members of the Japanese Kimono Club wear kimonos to meet at a venue every month. One of its members is a friend of FGY Art Gallery. After receiving the news of the Embroidery Exhibition, she suggested to club members that they should make visit to the Embroidery Exhibition this month’s event. Members were delighted to wear kimonos to the Art Gallery for cultural exchanges, and at the same time to show to the people the beauty and elegance of traditional Japanese culture. Indeed, the colour of the kimono and that of the embroidery work complemented each other. After visiting the Embroidery Exhibition, the Club members were full of joys and said that they would introduce more of their Japanese friends to the Exhibition.
