Venerable Abbess Manshin meets with Christchurch Police

01 / 08

In conjunction with the “3G4G Festival of Cultural Sharing” event organized by FGS South Island NZ temple, Canterbury police officers Pete and Kyle came over to interact with the participating school students. On 22nd May after the event, Venerable Abbess Manshin gave Pete and Kylie a tour around the temple itself.

Venerable Abbess took Pete and Kylie to visit the main shrine, time tunnel, tea meditation corner, art gallery, “The Life Story of the Buddha” exhibition, etc. She mentioned how the temple has established good long-term relations with the community. A good example was during the 2011 earthquakes when the temple became a relief centre, providing medical supplies and hot food to the locals and assisting the police with their emergency rescue work.

Venerable Abbess Manshin shared some life principles with the two police officers, encouraging them to use the Buddha’s teachings in their duties to provide a higher level of service. Pete and Kylie were full of marvel at FGS South Island’s dedication to the community, and so they thanked Venerable Abbess for her hospitality and promised to put what they learned that day to good use.
