The Great Compassion Repentance Dharma Function FGS North Island NZ – Discovering the Balance in Life

01 / 06

In order to celebrate Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva’s Renunciation Day, FGS North Island NZ organised the Great Compassion Repentance Dharma Function on the 9th of October 2022. Around 100 devotees gathered at the Main Shrine of FGS North Island. The congregation was led by Venerables for the chanting of the Great Compassion Repentance Sutra, where the devotees worship Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva wholeheartedly and hope to dedicate the merits to all sentient beings with blessings of wisdom and harmony.

As Venerable Master Hsing Yun once said, "Every immeasurable human suffering around the world has been undoubtedly perceived by Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, in which pain and psychological distresses of sentient beings have been liberated". This inadvertently left everyone pondering on the question of how can we, in the humanly world, learn to become Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva?  Abbess of FGS NZ, Venerable Manshin shared in her speech that:

  1. It is important to look upon every sentient being with compassion and strive to discover the harmony even from contradictions.
  2. "Listening" is receiving the sound from the world. We have to learn from Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva to convert all sound into Hymns, which are purified and pure, allowing ourselves to extract simplicity from complexity.
  3. We should volunteer to participate in services, alms giving and doing good deeds proactively to cultivate the compassion in the heart and seek ways to overcome obstacles courageously.
  4. With compassion, there is no foe. Learn to convert knowledge into wisdom from oppositions, release resentment and extricate oneself through forgiveness.
  5. An important part of self-observation is to look at the presence of our own sincere hearts. We have to apply wisdom to keep ourselves in a clear state and learn to obtain contentment despite the incompleteness.
  6. Have faith and compassion while dwelling with hardships, freeing oneself away from troubles, concerns and uneasiness.

Abbess Manshin gave words of blessing, reminding everyone to always have a thankful heart by showing appreciation and to be at ease regardless of the situation. “With endurance and perseverance, we can develop our prajna wisdom through serving the community. With an earnest heart, we can find the balance in everything and be our own Avalokitesvara one day”, Abbess shared.
