The 8th 3G4G Festival of Cultural Sharing_Session 3 Laba Rice putting 3G4G in Action!

On 5th May 2022, 77 of year 2 students from Sunnyhills School, accompanied by 15 teachers and parents, arrived at the Fo Guang Shan Auckland Temple to participate the 8th 3G4G Festival of Cultural Sharing.

Walking into the Temple, the students were amazed by the magnificence building and the beautiful garden. The tour guide explained to the students that the name of the courtyard called Field of Merit. She led the students to touch the Mondo Grass and encouraged the students to be resilience like it. In addition, one of the favourite activities of the students is making Lotus Origami. With the help of volunteers, the students earnestly made their lotus flower and put it on their wrists happily. Furthermore, the students watched the story of The Life of Buddha at the Prince Siddhartha exhibition hall, following by writing wishing card and experience mindfulness meditation.

Senior Constable Matt Green and Constable Greta from the New Zealand Police had a fun and meaningful interaction with the students. They guided the students to understand the difference between conscious and temptation, leading them to make the right and positive decisions in daily life. After the activities, students enjoyed the delicious Laba Rice prepared by the Temple. One of the students claimed that he loves Laba Rice because it contains sweet corn as his favourite food. Venerable NengChien explained to the students that eating Laba Rice will gain energy to do good, say good and think good in daily life. The students expressed that they would eat more Laba Rice and become more powerful. At the end of the program, the students received a bookmark with Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s wise words as gifts.

Sunnyhills School has participated in the education program for the fourth consecutive year. Principal Justin Driver once led students to visit the Temple in the past, she mentioned that the value of Three Acts of Goodness & Four Givings (3G4G) blend in very well with the school’s values. Introducing these positive values to the students at a young age will set them on the right path in the future.

One of the students liked the sounds of the wishing bell and said that he would bring his family back to the Temple and ring the bells for them. All the teachers and parents supported and enjoyed every activity and appreciated the Fo Guang Shan Temple putting the best effort into the community and bringing the best care to the students.
