Pre-exhibition Visit of Mrs. Kuo to FGY Art Gallery Christchurch

01 / 16

Fo Guang Yuan (FGY) Art Gallery Christchurch was in the final stage of preparation for the 8th August 2020 ‘Prof. Kuo Yen-Chiao’s Traditional Chinese Painting Exhibition’, when the late Professor’s wife, Madam Kuo Chua Yang Chun, accompanied by her daughter Louisa Kuo and granddaughter Kun Yi Liu, paid a visit to the Gallery on the 5th August 2020. The entourage were welcomed by Fo Guang Shan (FGS) South Island Minister-in-charge Venerable Jue Xi and Gallery Coordinator Ryan Wang, who then guided them for a tour of the exhibition venue.

While viewing the paintings, Mrs.. Kuo became overcome with emotions and began sobbing quietly. Venerable Jue Xi then started to console her by telling her that, though Professor Kuo had passed away, he had left behind a treasure of valuable traditional Chinese paintings to the World. Through the coming Exhibition at FGY Art Gallery, more people from the local community would be able to appreciate Professor Kuo’s works, and learn about the beauty and special cultural characteristics of traditional Chinese paintings. And from these master pieces, they will also be able to feel the joy experienced by Prof. Kuo doing his paintings.

Later, Venerable Jue Xi guided Mrs. Kuo and her entourage to the Time Tunnel to appreciate the floral arrangements carried out by FGS New Zealand Abbess Venerable Manshin. In the floral arrangements, Mrs. Kuo was able to feel Abbess’s dedication and wisdom. While in the Time Tunnel, Mrs. Kuo expressed her gratitude for the chance to be in contact with these meaningful works by Abbess Manshin, whom she praised incessantly. This time around, Professor Kuo’s Traditional Chinese Paintings Exhibition will be held concurrently with the Floral Arrangement Exhibition by FGY Art Gallery New Zealand Curator Venerable Abbess Manshin. It is hoped that the joint Painting cum Floral Arrangement Exhibition will present a richer and more graceful ambience for visitors to refresh and purify their souls.
