Pilgrimage Held to Celebrate Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva's Enlightenment Day
On 28th of July 2021, a pilgrimage was held to commemorate the anniversary of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva's enlightenment at Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple, Auckland. In the afternoon, two BLIA youth members helped with the arrangements of the table and prayer cushion in the Front Shrine. One of the youth, Liu, expressed that he was glad to help and felt good for able to prepare a comfortable environment for people to pray tonight.
More than 60 people participated in this pilgrimage which was led by Venerable Rulian and Venerable Miaoyu. At 6 pm, the chanting of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva’ name began, the pilgrimage started from the main gate to the Front Shrine. The participants and pious heart were not affected by the cold winter weather.
Venerable Rulian taught the participants of the 10 Great Vows of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, which is about compassion. By having compassion, one can purify one’s mind and realize that there are no enemies and no opposition. Venerable Rulian hopes that everyone can become Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva and apply compassion, wisdom and convenience into their daily life.
