Over 300 Visitors came to the 2022 Mini Green Flea Market amidst Heavy Rain
2022 Green Flea Market event on 19 November, which was carefully planned by the held by Fo Guang Shan (FGS) Christchurch and Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) south Island was eagerly anticipated by many, but unfortunately, it had to be cancelled due to heavy rain that began on the night of the 18 November and lasted throughout the day on the 19 November.
Despite the cancellation of outdoor booths, BLIA South Island members enthusiasm did not diminish. They set up a mini green flea market in the “Five Contemplations Hall” of the temple, offering handmade cakes, fresh vegetables provided by the BLIA South Island’s president, second-hand goods collected by the association, and various vegetarian food stalls. This still attracted many people to come and shop with joy.
In addition, the Buddhist scriptures were copied and Buddhist teachings were given in the Buddha Hall, and the Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery Christchurch held a "Clay Works" 21 pottery artists exhibition, which also attracted many people to participate. On this day, which was blessed with heavy rain, more than 300 visitors came to the temple and spent a meaningful and heartwarming market day with the joy and enthusiasm of everyone.
With the successful reputation of the "Green Flea Market" events held in the past three years, the public has enthusiastically responded to the activity. Participating vendors had high expectations for the event. The organisers hope that through this event, they can promote community interaction, invigorate the local economy, and most importantly, advocate for green living and contribute their effort to saving the earth. Even though the event was affected by heavy rain this year, BLIA members passion remained strong, and they still managed to create different bonds and joy in the rain, which can be considered as a small feedback to the community.
