Auckland Council Social Development, Family and Community Services Staffs Visits the Temple – Experiencing Social Harmony as Influenced by Humanistic Buddhism
On 2nd May, a delegation of 40 from Auckland Council’s Social Development, Family and Community Services visited the Temple during the school holidays. The group consisted of department staff and their children.
They were received by Venerable Miaoyu and Linda Daniell, BLIA Vice-chairperson (North Island); who took the visitors on a tour of the Temple and briefly described the functions of different Shrines, the features of the architecture, landscaping and the Pagoda. They were also introduced the current exhibition “The Birth of Prince Siddhartha” to see the CGI animated short filmed “The Buddha”.
Group Leader Yong Jie Lee expressed that from numerous co-operation with the Temple, Council staff have developed better understanding regarding the culture and ideals of Humanistic Buddhism. They have better understood Humanistic Buddhism’s method of propagation from the Temple’s numerous multicultural events, which have provided great influence to their society’s development. He therefore hopes there will be more opportunity to work side by side with the Temple to promote social harmony.
