BLIA monthly meeting for the month of July 2008

The BLIA meeting, held on Sunday 3 August 2008, was chaired by Joanna Cheng, the Chairman of East 1 Sub-chapter, Peter Young, the President of the BLIA and George Lu, Advisor of BLIA, also attended the meeting along with about 40 members. Venerable Manwang was also present to guide the meeting.

During the meeting it was confirmed that the Ullambana Festival would take place on Sunday 17 August 2008. Each sub-chapter, BLIAYAD and the Chinese School will give a performance to show their respect to the Venerable for their diligent work in propagating Buddhism. All members of the various groups were encouraged to support and promote the ceremony. The opening ceremony of the Magnificence of Embroidery Exhibition will be held after the Ullambana festival to promote Chinese art and culture.

The Father’s Day celebration will be held on Sunday 7 September to educate and guide children to appreciate their parents and give filial piety.

The Mid Autumn Festival, which is one of the three major festivals in Chinese culture will be held on 13 and 14 September. In the afternoon of 14 September the BLIA will hold their Annual General Meeting and all sub-chapters are to encourage their members to attend.

Committee and general members were encouraged to join the 2008 Fo Guang Shan International Conference in Taiwan. All members are welcome to join the Conference and travel afterwards.

At the conclusion of the meeting Venerable Manwang stated that the propagation of Buddhism to benefit others needs the help and support of all members which will lead us to achieve benefit to our selves and others.
