On the afternoon of 19th March, New Zealand's first Asian Inspector Rakesh Naidoo brought his colleague Scott Webb over to visit Fo Guang Shan. They were greeted by Venerable Abbess Manshin, Venerable Rulian, and BLIA chairperson Dolly Tsai. Inspector Webb is currently stationed over the Shore and this is his first time visiting the temple. The Abbess led the visitors to tour the Main Shrine, Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery 1, The Way of Life Photographic Exhibition, and the Pagoda. Inspector Webb was thoroughly impressed with Fo Guang Shan’s propagation of Humanistic Buddhism and promotion of multiculturalism. The Abbess briefly introduced the recent “Fo Guang Shan’s Inaguration Dharma Function for the 9th Head Abbot, which includes the Dharma Transmission Ceremony for Linji Chan School’s 49th Generation Dharma Patriarch”, played BLTV’s news report on the construction of Buddha Memorial Hall, and reporting on the recent NZ Police Pay Parade. These showed that Fo Guang Shan’s work of propagating Buddhism is for the whole wide world. After understanding Fo Guang Shan’s strictly upheld ways of passing down the Dharma, the inspectors expressed that the Venerable Master is indeed a great person, who managed to continue the Dharma lineage that’s passed down by the Buddha from India. This is a very important religious ceremony that should be promoted.

Inspector Webb expressed that today’s trip is not just a pilgrimage; it also allowed him to see Fo Guang Shan’s hard work. This place provided more cultural and education resources for the public, and he hopes that through the co-operation between police and citizens, a harmonious society can be created. Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s “366 Days with Wisdom” were then gifted to the Inspectors.
