Elegant Students from Catholic College visits Fo Guang Shan
66 students and teachers from Baradene College arrived at Fo Guang Shan on the morning of 12th March under the guidance of their minder Anne Henaghan. This visit is a part of their religious learning, and they were welcomed by Venerable Miaoyu. The Venerable explained to the visitors various symbolisms of the temple architecture, and introduced the philosophies propagated by Humanistic Buddhism. Then the student raised many questions regarding Buddhism, such as:
1. Meaning behind light, flower, and fruit offerings.
2. Buddhism’s views on sentient beings, and the 6 realms of existence within the cycle of birth and death.
3. Why do monastics need to shave their head?
Venerable Miaoyu answered the questions by using stories from Buddhist scriptures and examples taken from Buddhism’s practical applications during daily lives, thus allowing the pupils to gain better understanding toward Buddhism.
Afterwards the elegant and impeccably dressed students visited the Pagoda and the temple’s botanical features, thus familiarising themselves with the temple’s character of respecting life and being a part of daily life. Then under the guidance of their teacher, everyone transformed all they’ve learnt today into illustrations while standing amongst the courtyard. The students all thanked the temple for receiving them for this fulfilling trip of religious learning.
