‘Using compliment in place of criticism’

Wednesday 16 July 2008, eleven regular members met with happy hearts on this cold and rainy night to practice the songs they will sing at the Ullambana Service in August. ‘Using compliment in place of criticism’, one of the stories from Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s book ‘How I Practice Humanistic Buddhism’, was the theme of the discussions.

The group made valuable contributions to the interpretation of the story and agreed that we should respect others but we don’t have to follow. Venerable Miaoyu said that we should take our time and consider our options carefully without having unfair expectations. Sometimes people don’t know the right way but it is important to sow the seeds of Buddhism through our actions in our daily life. Each member then shared their reasons for becoming a Buddhist which was a time to be cherished as Dharma brothers and sisters.
