BLIA Continue to Assist NZ Red Cross Association

01 / 08

The New Zealand Red Cross Association was established and approved in 1931 by the International Red Cross Association. The New Zealand Red Cross Association continued promoting a variety of charity work to the society, including Meals on Wheels. New Zealand South Island BLIA has been part of the Meals on Wheels team since 1997 and has been continuously serving the society for 15 years, delivering hot meals to the elderly. Despite the countless number of earthquakes in Christchurch, the New Zealand BLIA has continued to serve the society with Meals on Wheels. Every year the New Zealand Red Cross Association provides some financial assistance to petrol fairs for the volunteers, assisting them in delivering meals to the elderly. The volunteers from New Zealand South Island BLIA always donate the supply to FGS New Zealand South Island to help with the charity group who always use it on charity work.

On 18th September, Venerable Miao Yu, South Island BLIA president See Shen Lee, vice president Louisa Kuo and nine other BLIA members collected and gathered the warm packed meals from Mona Vale, which was prepared by the New Zealand Red Cross Association. The members separated into three groups to deliver the meals to the elderly. The elderly felt touched to see the volunteers bringing them hot meals as most of them have difficulty with mobility.

The members from FGS New Zealand South Island said that they felt delighted and cheerful for being part of the Meals on Wheels team, and while contributing to this event they experience what Venerable Master Hsing Yun promotes in Humanistic Buddhism - the spirit of giving when serving the society.
