BLIA Monthly Meeting – June 2008


This month’s BLIA, held on the 6th of July at 1:00 pm, was attended by over 30 people. This included Peter Young (President of BLIA), the Venerable in Charge, Venerable Manwang, Advisor, Committee Members, the Chairman of each sub-chapter and members.

The focus was on the progress made for our major activities and conferences to be held between August to October 2008:
• The Ullambana Festival (Sangha’s Day) which is going to be held in August. Each sub-chapter is to plan and arrange performances for this festival.
• A ‘Father’s Day Celebration’. Activities and games suitable for fathers and their children are to be arranged, and all sub-chapters are asked to contribute to Lantern Making and also to promote this celebration to local schools and colleges.
• The BLIA AGM.
• The ‘Mid Autumn Festival’ to be held during September.
• The Fo Guang Shan AGM to be held at the FGS headquarters in Taiwan during October.

Venerable spoke regarding various activities which had been held in June:
• She praised the members of the English Sub Chapter for contributing their time and talent in taking groups on tours of the temple.
• Abbess Venerable Manshine led all the Venerables, Committee Members, and members totaling around 80 people in a home visit to celebrate our President Peter Young’s 61st Birthday.
• She spoke about Promotion of the Teahouse.
• ANZBYC is holding at the moment.
• Venerable recommended that Peter send an invitation letter to promote and encourage members to participate in the above-mentioned activities and conferences.
